Prizm Installation Checklist

This checklist is intended to assist installers and technicians in preparing for the power-up and configuration of a Prizm aircraft lighting system. It complements the official installation manual and other technical references. Following this checklist will help ensure a smooth installation process, reduce troubleshooting delays, and maintain the quality standards expected for Prizm-equipped aircraft.

Pre-Installation Preparation

  • Configuration Worksheet: Confirm that a completed configuration worksheet has been prepared for the aircraft and submitted to Prizm for pre-configuration review.
  • Electrical Drawings: Submit electrical drawings to Prizm for review service@PrizmAircraftLighting.com. It is strongly recommended that both the configuration worksheet and wiring drawings be reviewed by Prizm prior to applying power to the system.

Hardware and Connectivity Preparation

  • Wi-Fi Antenna: If the Prizm controller’s built-in wireless network will be used for configuration, ensure that an RP-SMA Wi-Fi antenna is connected to each controller before applying power.
  • Venue Integration: For systems integrating with a Collins Venue cabin management system:
  • Ensure that Prizm+ unlock codes are available for enabling Ethernet control.
  • Refer to the Venue System Definition Document (SDD) for specific IP address assignments and Venue ID mappings.

Controller Power-On and Configuration

  • Sequential Power-On: If multiple controllers are installed, power on only one controller at a time to avoid IP conflicts. The default IP address for all Prizm controllers is 172.20.10.42. Assign unique static IP addresses to additional controllers as needed.

Connecting to the Prizm System for Configuration

  • Option 1: Direct Network Connection via Router
  • Connect a laptop to the aircraft cabin Wi-Fi router.
  • If necessary, configure the laptop’s wireless adapter with a static IP (e.g., 172.20.10.100).
  • Access the Admin System Setup utility by navigating to http://172.20.10.42/admin in a web browser.
  • Option 2: Temporary Direct Wireless Connection
  • Attach an RP-SMA antenna to the Prizm controller.
  • Leave the J1 connector unplugged to enable the controller’s internal wireless adapter.
  • Connect to the “LED Lighting” Wi-Fi network, then navigate to http://192.168.42.1/admin.

System Configuration Steps

  • Clear Default Settings: In the Admin System Setup utility, select Load Empty Configuration to remove default settings from the controller.
  • Load Configuration: Using your completed worksheet, enter the system configuration into the utility, or load a pre-approved configuration file.
  • Venue Ethernet Setup (if applicable):
  • Unlock the “Prizm+ Enhanced Ethernet Control” feature with a provided unlock code if required.
  • Assign IP addresses and configure gateway and subnet settings per the SDD.
  • In multi-controller setups, enter the IP addresses of all additional controllers under the “Multiple Unit Configuration” section.
  • Assign Venue Designators:
  • Navigate to Output Settings > Location Settings to configure lighting channels and Venue ID tags based on the Venue SDD appendix.
  • Ensure all location cards are correctly mapped to channel outputs and Venue IDs.
  • Save and Initialize:
  • Click Save ALL Settings and Reinitialize to commit changes.
  • Power down the controller after saving.
  • If applicable, remove the Wi-Fi antenna and reconnect the J1 connector.
  • Repeat for Each Controller: If more than one controller is installed, repeat the entire configuration process for each controller before powering them all on simultaneously.

Functional Verification

Perform a complete functional check of the system to ensure lighting control is operating as expected. This includes verifying Venue integration (or integration with any other CMS), discrete input responses, and app-based control if applicable.

Operational Notes

  • Clearly label and archive configuration files by aircraft serial number and controller role to facilitate future support.
  • When using a Venue CMS or other Ethernet-integrated system, avoid using the Prizm app as a primary control method, as the CMS will override manual commands approximately every two seconds.
  • Never power on the system with incomplete or unreviewed configurations, as this can lead to operational delays and unnecessary troubleshooting.
